Review :
Shetty's worst year in the 90s
Sunil Shetty started the year 1994 with hits and blockbuster Mohra but 1995 was the worst year for the actor as all his films failed at the box office. This started from the 1994 flop Hum Hain Bemisaal and carried on until 1996 hit film Vishwasghaat. This means all his films flopped in 1995. Gaddaar(Traitor) was another film which failed to impress the audience as this was sort of like Surakshaa which had Shetty in a friendly appearance although here he has more of an extended role. The director Ram Shetty best known for his famous stunts in many Bollywood films debuted in Direction with this but unlike Ravi Dewan who debuted and only directed Vinashak another Shetty film that was a hit, this one seemed to fall flat. The movie is typical and the handling isn't at its best and only some scenes are well directed. There isn't much action which is the most disappointing part. The movie's main focus is friendship turining into love turning into a triangle turning into hatred amongst our friends turning into a random action scene for a climax. The film isn't as bad as Surakshaa or Takkar but average like Raghuveer which also flopped. Shetty does OK as the rich and evil Mohan Joshi's son and for once he is acting in a role where he isn't middle classed or poor. Harish who debuted from hit Prem Quadi proves he can act although he needs to choose better films. Supporting actors like Kiran Kumar does good for once he is doing a role who supports the good and not the typical villain. Mohan Joshi does okay but he just like Amrish Puri is getting typecast. The others provide average support. But, the major drawback of the film is the melodrama which is clichéd and the film just drags and the worst part is the fight scenes are only done to impress the girl and the last scene was to fight some random people who wanted revenge because the opening action scene was a boxing one in the ring and Sunil kicked their butt in a decent action scene. But, the film still falls flat and fails to entertain. Sonali Bendre is just about okay but she did better in Takkar. Overall, another movie which flopped and annoyed at parts. Raam Shetty should stick to action he is a bad director.
